Because of Winn Dixie Ch6-10

Why does Opal decide to ask the preacher to tell her about her mother?
When Opal asks the preacher to tell her about her mother, she asks him to tell her ten things.  Why does she ask for ten things?

Why did Winn-Dixie pull the cushions down, pull all the toilet paper of the roll, and howl?
why does Opal write down the ten things about her mother?
